Jio

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, also known as Jio, is an Indian telecommunications company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of Jio Platforms. It runs a nationwide LTE network that serves all 22 telecom circles. It does not provide 2G or 3G service, instead of relying solely on voice over LTE for voice service on its 4G network.

With over 42.62 crores (426.2 million) subscribers, it is India’s largest mobile network operator and the world’s third-largest mobile network operator.

Jio launched a fiber-to-the-home service in September 2019, which includes home broadband, television, and phone services. Reliance Industries has raised Rs.1.65 lakh crore (US$22 billion) by selling nearly a third of its equity stake in Jio Platforms as of September 2020.

In September 2016, the company began offering 4G broadband services across India. It was supposed to be released in December 2015, but according to some reports, the company was waiting for final government permits. With this, the Jio prepaid plans also changed.

Jio provides fourth-generation (4G) data and voice services, as well as ancillary services such as instant messaging, Jio net pack, movie and music streaming.

The service, which began with a ‘Welcome Offer’ on September 5, 2016, was first introduced in beta for only Reliance employees on December 27, 2015, to commemorate the 83rd birthday of Dhirubhai Ambani, the company’s founder.

Jio had originally partnered with Intex, a domestic mobile phone manufacturer, to produce 4G smartphones. However, in early 2016, the business debuted its own LYF line of smartphones, beginning with the Water 1.

When Anil and Mukesh Ambani divorced in 2005, it was one of the most significant de-mergers in the business. Reliance Infocomm, Mukesh Ambani’s dream enterprise, became part of the Anil Ambani Group. Mukesh Ambani also went on to buy Infotel Broadband Services Limited, which was the sole winning bidder for the 4G network throughout India.

This is when Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Limited began laying the groundwork for a high-speed optical fiber 4G network that is far more capable than 4G. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, or Jio as it is currently called, was the company’s name. Jio was the first mobile network to provide 4G LTE and VoLTE services.

On the 5th of September 2016, Jio offered these services for all consumers, as well as its LYF smartphone line. Instead of voice and SMS, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) focuses on a new Jio plan which is high-speed data. In a market where most prominent telecom carriers gave 1GB data per month, the firm revealed data plans with 1GB 4G data per day when it first launched.

RJIL’s move was a game-changer in India’s price-sensitive market, the Jio data plans prices for 1 GB 4G data previously ranged between Rs 250 and 300, before dropping to Rs 5 per GB in the early days. Along with this incredible Jio plan, Jio has begun providing free voice calls and 100 free SMS per day to all of its Prime members.

The all-new ‘JioPhone Next,’ which is being co-developed by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance and Google, is set to be released on Ganesh Chaturthi, September 10, 2021. However, due to a severe global shortage of semiconductors, it has been postponed until at least Diwali 2021, according to reports dated September 10, 2021.

The business said that it has already begun testing the gadget with a small group of customers in order to find more areas for improvement before making them widely accessible in November, during the Diwali festival. Reliance Jio has also gained some more time to seek out effective strategies to address the global semiconductor scarcity.
